About Me

Susan is a contemporary artist living in the beautiful Carse of Gowrie in North East Scotland where she was born and bred. She trained, in Dundee, at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art (DJCAD) during the eighties and paints from her studio at East Inchmichael where she lives and has brought up her family.

The source of her inspiration derives from her immediate environment; an ever-accumulating assortment of subject matter including people, places, objects, and the varied senses they contain; past, present, or future. Susan responds to these through her paintings with the sensitive, mindful, and evocative connections that she feels, be it realistically or abstractly, to allow the viewer access to her perceptions and to make their own.

Artist’s Statement

I try to emphasize my personal connectivity and feelings in the relationship l have with my subject matter in such a way that it transfers onto the canvas and to the viewer. How it is interpreted is, of course, unique to the individual, but l aspire that they might feel a sense of what l feel too. As well as stimulating their own thoughts, connections, or memories, l hope to offer a link into something they may have forgotten; a feeling, a colour, or a shape that pops into their consciousness and bring it to the forefront. Thus, my aim is to open a portal into the unknown that encourages the creation of new thoughts and feelings.

Art speaks to everyone in diverse ways.
